Appear & Disappear (2024) is an interactive installation using voice control, digital symbols (memes), and sound to explore social consciousness. Commands like “appear” and “disappear” act as spells, granting symbolic power to summon or erase memes with hidden misogynistic tones. Each command prompts self-reflection as memes materialize or vanish, revealing normalized bias in digital culture. Through cycles of appearance and disappearance, Appear & Disappear challenges misogyny embedded in the dynamics of digital spaces, allowing audiences to shift between “summoning” and “erasing” as observers, challengers, or unwitting messengers, transforming awareness into a symbolic act of resistance that sparks reflection and discussion. The project aims to confront latent misogyny through symbolic opposition—but, whether it serves as resistance or propagation, depends on YOU.
