Dynamic Power in Classroom
The classroom is not only a place for the transfer of knowledge and skills, but also a
key environment for shaping values and socialization. In the context of Chinese
society, the system of education and teaching fields is deeply influenced by
Confucian culture, which invisibly strengthens the formation of social inequality and
power hierarchies in the classroom. By using the modern technology of immersive
games, this work constructs a virtual classroom scene, in which the seating layout
subtly metaphorizes class divisions and unfair treatment in the classroom. While
students' seats in a classroom may appear to indicate their status, no matter where
they sit, they are actually in the same space, subject to the same rules and
restrictions. In this space framed by norms and power, everyone cannot truly break
away from their given identity, and the same is true for teachers. Through the power
dynamics that shape classroom spaces, the work aims to critically reveal the issues
that still exist in China's education system today.
