LYE
The environmental crisis, driven by climate change, brings numerous and complex consequences. Some, like extreme weather, are urgently felt by humans, while others seem distant. To counter this detachment, Lye explores a perspective beyond the human, based on the premise that all actions are interconnected.
The ocean Global temperature rise has led to ocean acidification, as oceans absorb 30% of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere (NOAA agency, 2020). Increased carbon emissions from human activities and climate change contribute to higher levels of carbon dioxide being absorbed by the sea. Even small changes in the pH scale significantly affect ocean acidity, leading to devastating impacts on marine ecosystems, species, and food webs. Ocean acidification poses a threat to marine organisms.
Coral bleaching, a result of disrupted symbiotic relationships between reefs and algae due to rising temperatures, is a major concern.
Lye questions the contradictions of some narratives advocating social justice and environmental awareness issued by individuals such as industries that fall into greenwashing and explores through the senses the impact of these actions on a specific ecosystem such as coral reefs by contrasting data and their effects in a nonhuman perspective.
